TEAM Abilities knows a lot about the special needs community in Montgomery County. The agency just celebrated its 14-year anniversary of serving adults with special needs through day habilitation and community living homes.

We know back-to-school preparations for families of children with special needs offers its own set of challenges, Rachel Jelks said, CEO and Founder of TEAM Abilities. The one thing we can do to assist families is to offer free haircuts. We understand the IDD community and have staff prepared to host this event at our location.

Though TEAM Abilities ISS and residential programs are geared to adults with special needs, there are times the agency enrolls younger applicants.

TEAM Abilities accepts all levels of need and all levels of care which distinguishes us from most agencies, Jelks said. From total care to members who might have behavior issues, we do our best to provide expert care for all.

There is little to no waitlist for those families who wish to take advantage of TEAM Abilities services. According to Jelks, if families have been waiting more than 17 years to get the approved waivers allowing them to finally get care for their loved one, she doesnt want them to wait much longer to actually get those services.

We currently have 19 community living homes and have an ISS program so we feel well-equipped in serving the needs of parents. Of course, we are always looking for great staff, Jelks said. For this event, we are asking for volunteers and eager school-goers to get their haircut.

The FREE HAIRCUT event happens Monday, August 12, 10am to 2pm at TEAM Abilities day habilitation program located at 611 Westridge Drive in Spring, 77380. To book an appointment text or call Donna at 832-790-2879.

T.E.A.M. is an acronym for Together Everyone Achieves More. The agency just celebrated its 14-year anniversary serving adults with special needs through day habilitation and community living homes in the Harris and Montgomery county area.

In the aftermath of Hurricane Beryl, TEAM Abilities has rescheduled their Open House and 14-Year Anniversary Party to Thursday, July 25.

"We have waited for so long to move into our new building after setting our sights on this location more than a year ago," says Rachel Jelks, Founder and CEO of TEAM Abilities. "We want to celebrate with our community, but Hurricane Beryl had other plans!"

The agency, which serves adults with special needs through Day Habilitation/ISS and Community Living Homes, moved into its new location after more than a decade at its previous Spring location.

"The new location is just around the corner from where we had been for more than a decade so those families needing to drop off their special needs loved ones had the same convenience they enjoyed previously," says Jelks. "We have a robust day program and 19 Community Living Homes to serve the ever-growing demand for short- and long-term solutions for families in need."

The Open House invites families with special needs to tour their facility and to learn more about how TEAM Abilities can assist them. The agency is also celebrating its 14-year anniversary and is one of the leading agencies for adults with special needs in both Montgomery and Harris counties.

"TEAM Abilities takes all levels of need and all levels of care distinguishing us from most other agencies," says Jelks. "So those families who have special needs loved ones with behaviors or are nonverbal or have a juvenile record or need total care, etc. can find a home and care with us."

The agency is located at 611 Westridge Drive in Spring off Budde Road. The Thursday, July 25 Open House event is free, offers light bites and the public is invited.

The incredible turnout resulted in raising more than $180,000 to support the institutions mission to end cancer. 100% of the costs of the event were underwritten by Susser Bank and the Susser family.

The tournament serves as an opportunity to unite the community for a day of golf while contributing to a meaningful cause. The evening before the tournament, Catherine and Sam L. Susser, Chairman and CEO of Susser Bank, extended their gratitude to the participants at a dinner held at their family home. Their words of appreciation echoed the sentiment of hope for a future free of cancer, made possible through the support of dedicated sponsors. Dr. Peter Pisters, President of MD Anderson, was the keynote speaker and his remarks about recent developments to end cancer were truly inspiring.

MD Anderson is one of the worlds most respected centers devoted to eradicating cancer and serving patients battling this horrible disease, said Susser. Chances are, each of you has a personal stake in the fight against cancer. When I reflect on our familys own experience walking alongside loved ones with the disease, I cannot fathom a world without MD Anderson and its exceptional caregivers, researchers and lifesaving technologies. Our family believes it is essential to invest in research and clinical trials with the goal of ending cancer, and there is no institution that is more impactful at this fight than MD Anderson. Susser continued, Thank you to the many clients, bankers, directors, shareholders and volunteers who came together to make these two days of events both impactful and memorable.

Founded 63 years ago, Susser Bank has operated under the ownership and direction of Susser Banc Holdings Corporation since 2018.
